I have a '03 ramw/ the hemi- my question is:
why does my trucks takes a while to really take off when I step on it???
my brother has a '02 tahoe 5.3 V8 and his takes off like a bullet. Even thought My truck will beat him every time, his tahoe always takes off first an then my truck will fly by him. So far I've put new platinum sparkplugs-Taylor thunderbolt sparkplug wires & a K&N air filter. My truck has 3.55 gears and 265-70/17's.
I feel my truck should be quicker out of the hole. Any suges???????????

thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could be wrong, but I think most Chevy's have a really low 1st and 2nd gear in the auto transmission. I know my fathers truck is this way. Really quick for the first 50ft, then hits 3rd and dogs for a while.

On the other hand the Rams with 3.92 gears that I have driven took off in first gear. I wonder how much of a difference the 3.55 gear would make?

It's that F'n torque management. Mine isn't as bad now after the mods, but it sure isn't where I want it to be...Even for a daily driver.

well, this is a long shot - it works on a Jeep and that's a D/C product as well - reprogram your computer by finding an open stretch of road, from a dead stop floor it and haul a$$ to 60 or 65. Pull over and stop then turn off the truck. Crank it back up and do it again about 2 -3 more times. I don't know if your truck has a learning computer. I know my 2000 Cherokee did as well as my 03 Avalanche.

need to get the 3.92s or 4.10's...that'll help you off the line. i have 3.92's with my 4.7 and i was nose to nose with a 5.3 reg cab. that was lowered all the way through 2nd gear. then i hit 3rd and he killed me. by almost 2 seconds in the quarter. i think i shifted to 3rd too soon, oh well.

Hmmmm, interesting observation. I had an 01 Z71 w/ 5.3, an 02 2500HD w/6.0 and an 05 Z71 with the 5.3. To me, they were all slow off the line. In fact, I couldn't even spin the tires on slightly wet roads with these trucks(actually was sort of a good thing). The 01 had 4.10's, the 02 had 3.73's and the 05 had 3.42's(the worst of the 3). This Ram I now have, takes off like a bat out of heck from a stop.
This is the way I wish my GM's were. Problem solved now though.
If I punch it from a stop in my Ram, tires break loose bigtime. I had a 1st gen Tahoe(with the 5.7 and 3.73's) and that was even slow from a stop.
I have 3.92's, but with 20 inch rims.
I don't know what the plugs or filter will do for you though. I'll hazzard a guess at nothing really. I'm not a big fan of K&N's, they yield no hp and do nothing from a dead stop. Plugs just help with igniting compressed fuel.
Sounds more like a gear swap to 3.92's w/ a LSD would be all you need.

The 5.7L hemi, has electronic throttle control, also called "drive by wire". In other words it has no throttle cable. A pedal position sensor and an electronic motor on the side of the throttle body took the place of the cable. This allows the pcm to have better control of the throttle position, but it also causes a delay in acceleration. This is also the reason most of these trucks will not spin the tires of a stop.

I have a 2005 HEMI and 3.92 gears, my truck is quick *** hell from a dead stop, from 0-80km/h (first gear) it accelerates crazily fast, if there is anything wet on the road, or even a little dirt, it'll just spin the 20's forever...

Same here... But without the 20's.
