Default 2005 5.7 engine swap in 2008 Ram help

I have a 2008 ram with a 5.7 with high millage and the motor started knocking bad. I my garage on a stand is a 5.7 out of a 2005 with 16,000 miles on it. Can I use the short block on the 2008?

Apparently I can use the 2005 engine if I add MDS or use a tuner to delete MDS from the PCM.

If you have just a short block then it's easy to swap in the MDS stuff. If you don't want to do that then yes use a programmer to turn it off, you can't delete it from the PCM.

keep in mind MDS lifters are different than non mds lifters. If you want mds to work you need those lifters, that requires pulling the heads.

Tuner and shut off the MDS looks like a much simpler route. Not to worried about the economy as its my hunting and fishing truck.
