Question Check gauges light stays on.

for the past 3 days or so when i first start my truck( 03 dodge ram 1500 4x4 5.7) the check gauges light stays on after the trucks started and it wont go off.The only way it will go off is if I shut the truck off then start it right back up again. All my gauges seem to be working fine what the heck could be the problem?

My 06 1500 4x4 4.7L just started doing this exact same thing. It happens only on the coldest days. When I shut it off and restart, all is well until the engine gets back to stone cold again.

I would have replaced the oil pressure sender by now, but it's behind the oil filter on the 4.7L, and nearly impossible to reach. Got a replacement sender (BWD Item #S4188 from O'Reilly's, $10) for nxt oil chg. when I'll have the filter off for better access.

Not sure where the sender is on the hemi. With any luck you don't have to twist yourself into a pretzel to get to it like I do.

BTW, I suspect using channelocks or vice grips is the usual approach and no harm no foul in this case, but if you want to use a "proper" tool, it takes a 26mm deep socket, open end, or box end.

Next time you see the check gauges indicator, take a look at your oil gauge.

i had this happen often to my 03 hemi and it was always concurrent with bitterly cold weather.. either the oil was thicker than normal and didn't get up to pressure in time for the gauge, or the alternator wasn't putting out enough juice.

the time its happened i noticed both the oil and volt gauges coming back up to normal REALLY slow.

Ok I did look at it and yes this time the oil gauge stuck all the way to the left for a few seconds so it must be on its way out.Does anyone know where the oil switch is located and how to get it out for my 03 5.7 thanks.oh and I can buy one on bay for like 16 bucks but advanced auto wants 77 bucks not sure why theirs is so much more?

Check post #2 for location, though it might be different on the 5.7. Also from post #2 -- Is there some reason you want to pay a lot more for something other than an OEM sender you can pick up anywhere? Also from post #2 -- how to get it out.
