when it starts to overheat, turn the heat on full blast to see if the temp goes down. you may have an obstruction in the heater core preventing fluid to flow, may be time for a back flush and new thermostat.

If it's that old with the original equipment both the rad and the core may be plugged. God help you if the previous owner mixed coolants on you...

Sorry about all the periods i was on my phone and i dont know whats up with it. But anyways when it over heated i turned on the heat full blast and sometimes it will cool it down and sometimes it wont. Now sometimes it will blow hot air and sometimes cold. I do know the owner that had the truck before me put a new radiator in the truck. Whats the proper way to back flush? Thanks for the help so far.

Is there any "gunk" or sediment in the overflow tank?

What sayeth the gallery... Drain the radiator, disconnect the upper and lower hoses and run water through it with a garden hose? If the water comes out of the lower hose and is clean, the radiator should be okay. If nothing comes out the lower hose and dirty water overflows from the upper hose, there's yer problem...

Sour like a blown head gasket. There should not be building pressure in the system. Do a compression test. Or a block test. 4.7 do not like to get hot. Even once can cause major issues.

Ok ill try that. I have a question. What kind of radiator should be in this truck? Im searching through the web and its pretty much telling me that there should be no cap on the radiator just on the reservoir. And on this truck there is a cap on the radiator and plus the reservoir. I dont know if this has nothing to do with it but when your standing in front of the truck looking at it theres 2 black hoses thats on the reservoir one just on the left of the cap and it goes to the left hookes on by the rad cap. Now the other hose on the right just sitting there that the end has a bolt to block it off. Im just wondering if this has anything to do with it. Should there be a cap on the radiator or did the person put the wrong rad in this thing and Hooked those lines up wrong. Thanks for the imput so far!

My 02 ram doesn't have a cap on the radiator, just the one on the overflow
