Default Crazy Electrical Issue - '05 1500 Quad, 4x4, 4.7L

Hey guys,

This is a crazy issue that I've never seen before. Please take a look at the linked Youtube video of the issue.

As you will see, the issue happens whether the keys are in the ignition or not. It's not the battery, I can jump it to start, but it will not stay running for long. I pulled every fuse and relay but nothing looks out of the ordinary. I haven't chased wires yet, but I'm not counting out a mongoose having used my wiring harness as lunch either.

Any help would be amazing.

Did you check the battery to see if its ok. Low voltage in battery could cause this.
next check the wiring on the bottom of your PCM the fuse box. near battery.
Fuse box noted for corrosion in side and there are some youtube videos on how to check this out.
It could also be a bad FCM front control module that is connected to the side of the fuse box.

Why do you have to jump the truck.
If it wont stay running might be a bad battery or alternator check both with meter or go to Autozone for them to put a load test on battery and check alternator.

Here is what I would do first.
Open hood check voltage in battery.
Then check alternator.
If both check ok PULL fuse #51 and see if the problem stops.

This controls voltage to the dash cluster, the radio, under hood light pull fuse #51.

If this stops the problem then bad pcm, fcm, or some bad wiring on the plugs under the fuse box.

With a meter check both sides of the fuse #51 to see of there is voltage on both sides with fuse pulled if so there is a short some place.

One other problem could be a bad ignition switch.

Good luck and check what I listed.

Thumbs up

So I was able to get it to run long enough to get it home. When I got it there it was able to idle so I unhooked the battery.

As baffling as this is, I have to say a new battery fixed the issue. At least for now. I've never seen a dead battery do anything similar to that before.

Thank you very much for the help, I am glad it was only $160 for a battery and not something like a new computer...
