Default Front shocks

Changing the front shocks on my 2008 ram1500 and I noticed they seem a little short .The wheel has to be on the ground so the shaft will go through the top mount is this right .

Monroe 911186 up front, 911187 on the rear. Leaving the weight on the suspension is far and away the easiest way to change shocks. Are they too short extended, or compressed?

You don't wanna use your shocks as bumpstops.... That's really bad for them.
