Default What needs replacement?

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4x4 and ever since I bought it it has had this problem, but now I'm tired of it and want to fix it.

When I turn hard left at low speeds I hear a loud popping sound coming from the front left suspension area. It sounds mostly like metal on metal but is definitely loud. This popping noise also happens when going over rocks or any other larger bump if I don't slow down to almost a stop. However, daily driving is fine and I never hear the pop on normal small bumps.

From reading other forums and resources I see that it may be the tie rod causing this problem but I am not sure. What could cause this popping sound? I am simply looking to narrow it down to a few things before I go taking stuff apart to find the problem.
Thanks.
