Default Rebuild 04 Hemi??

Hey Guys,

Looking at buying another truck to turn into a toy. I've found a few good deals on some needing work. I don't have many details or ideas, as they are all located about 2 hrs away. I just wanted some generalized opinions on how much it may cost to fix them before I even take the time and gas to go look at them.

A couple say a knock has started, I'm guessing lower end rod knock. Another says lifter noise, which I know can be super easy, lastly, one just says runs and drives but needs engine work. Sure, I can email them and ask for more details, but not sure I'd really trust what they have to say, or they are likely very unknowledgeable since not much details are listed in their posts.

I guess my question is, how much will it likely cost me to rebuild them? is machining often required on these? Or am I likely looking at just bearing and gasket changeouts. I am capable of doing any work except machining.

I'm just looking for ideas to see if the cost for me to fix them added to the cost of me buying the vehicle would be in my price range, or if I should just skip them and find something different.

Thanks,

Eric

What is your budget for any potential rebuild?

I haven't even really decided yet, I just kinda figured I'd decide if it was more than I want to spend when I add everything up.

That's definitely higher than I'd want to spend, at this point.

Might be better of spending a bit more, and getting a truck that doesn't immediately need major work...... initial cost is higher, but, then you won't need to spend large piles of cash rebuilding the motor......

Agreed! I have been there and done that. In the end, it's cheaper to spend a little more up front for a truck that doesn't need a lot of work up front.
