Default X Pipe / Flowmaster

Having to replace my 2 flowmaster 40 mufflers. I heard that the flowmaster Super 10 had a nice sound to them, whats your thoughts on it 40's or super 10?
Also thinking about installing an "X" Pipe and wondering does it get installed before or after the mufflers? I read that if you take a crayon and strike a line on each tailpipe from front to back, start the engine to heat it up to melt. And where it doesn't melt is where the "X" Pipe should be installed. Anyone ever heard of this?

The best place to mount the X-pipe for maximum flow is toward the front of your exhaust system, close to your transmission. Yes, the crayon is an old hot rodder trick.

I had to use a crossover for the exhaust on my 2008 Ram 2500 5.7L. I had the muffler shop put a couple glass packs on it and without the crossover, the sound out of the exhaust pipe had a chirp sound. The cross over also helped on my 1968 Chevelle as far as making it sound good. I have no idea if it helps with power. LOL
