I always take rpm up when using my vehicle electrical system for anything external. If you have a PTO awsome (course then you would not be having this discussion), if you have a deisel follow the owners manual for the technique for raising RPM in neutral using the cruise. if you have a gas engine you can use my half pool cue stick holding down the gas pedal trick. The engine will keep itself at a max of about 3000 rpm.

I assume you mean jumpstarting when you said boosting. I jump stuff with my truck all the time and have yet to have a problem. The only time I have ever had a problem was when I jump started a mercedes benz 190 and that burnt out the sender for the fuel gage on the benz, which was what was being jumped. that car apparently had electrical problems anyway. Part of my profession is operating wreckers etc... all of the ones I have used that do not have a pony moter jump starter require you have the engine running so as to power the dead vehicles battery. Ironically my primary wrecker uses the pigtail disconnect for a warn receiver mounted winch (we do not actuially have the winch or the receiver for that matter).

If you get really serious you can go with an overdrive pulley for the alternator and/or a high output alternator. if you are goung to do that extra battery go with two optimas wired in parallel. Make sure you find a really good location for that second battery and use really heavy gauge wiring. If you are going to do that you still might want to consider a high output alternator.

i would at least go with a 12500 winch and warn is always a good choice but their is cheaper models out there ,but you usually get want you pay for , warn also make a cheaper line called tabor i believe . I think just a nice yellow top is plenty , i have pulled 30 feet with my winch engine dead on stock battery in my 04 jeep tj and it worked alright so a deep cycle battery would be plenty
