Default who has done a cam and head swap from 5.7L to 6.1L

Just wondering who has done a cam and head swaping the 5.7 heads and cam for the 6.1 heads and cam. I understand that mopar doesn't sell the heads anymore, but I was just curious whos done it yet and if they have had problems? I have a 03 hemi and was interested in doing this mod.

Being as you have an 03 your might have any easier time than most... apparently the 03 has a better learn function than the 04 and 05 (cannot speak on the 06, but imagine the same applies). If you do this swap you might have to change out your intake manifold too. The stock one will almost certainly bolt up, but there is a port size mismatch that will lead to serious flow issues. You then have the problem that most SRT intakes were built for cars not trucks, and have been set up for a different serpentine belt arrangement (not sure if this applies to the Jeep Grand Cherokee motor), so you will have to modify that. I assume that the car setup should fit in the truck as I am sure the car setup was simply designed due to clearence issues due to there being less space under the hood. I would think a better solution would be to get a set of ported heads and a custom or SRT cam. Talk to the guys at KRC performance if you are in florida or the environs (they have several custom grinds done by compcams and really cool ported or extrude honed heads). If you are closer to TX talk to the guys at PORTPROS in austin. They do custom port and polish on the Hemi heads and are a compcams dealership so can get you any of the three compcams regular grinds.

If you change the Intake Manifold you will have to change to the car front cover assembly. Hot Rod Magazine did a test of the 3 different Intake Manifold designs available for the Hemi, using a 5.7L crate motor. The Production 5.7L INtake Manifold produced 3 more HP and 14 more lbs.-ft of torque then the 6.1L manifold, however there was a big mismatch in port size which if solved would probably lead to the 6.1L Intake Manifold producing much better numbers.

This is definitely something I'm planning on doing when I get back from Iraq, I'm going to be changing over to the entire 6.1L Top End, heads, cam and intake manifold.

Well, I don't get the Family Seps Pay, or BAH, but the rest does come in very handy it's how I hooked up my Durango before I decided to sell her, and how I'm going to be able to lift and regear the Ram in about a year.

You might want to look into the BAH thing... I think my airmen got it whilst deployed regardless of if they lived in the barrack or off base stateside. I know we are USAF but we all are supposedd to get paid the same (I mean it is DFAS that pays us not USAF or USMC).

If I lived off-base I would rate BAH, but since I live in the Barracks I don't get it. While you are right that it is DFAC that pays us, each branch has their own policies as far as things like that, and the Reservists rate BAH while they are deployed, but Active Duty does not.
