Default 4.7 issues

Hello. I'm new. Seeking desperate help. I've got an 03 4.7. Was using a special tool to replace lifters, and a valve keeper popped out and went down a hole in the cylinder head and it sounded like it went to the bottom of wherever... oil pan? Anyway I need some help. Uploading some pics of missing valve keeper and the hole it went down.

Doesn't look like there's enough clearance to drop the oil pan without pulling the front differential or raising the engine. I'm prettt close all I'd have to do is pull the motor mounts, and unbolt everything at the back. I was also working on pulling the front cover that's why I said I was close.

Maybe you can cheat...... If you are pulling the front cover, take the timing set out of the way, and maybe you can bribe some nice young girl to stick her hand in there, and see what she can find. Don't laugh, and don't look at me like that. I have DONE THIS before. Yeah, it cost me 20 bucks to have my buds girlfriend scrape crap off the bottom of an oil pan, (plastic timing gear.....) but, I did NOT have to pull the engine or drop the pan. Saved me MANY hours of labor.

Do you have a 4.7 also? Does that oil galley go all the way to the oil pan or does it go somewhere else?

For me, that was on a V-6 in a Mustang II. (not mine, I was actually getting paid to work on it.)

I do suspect though, that that oil drain SHOULD go all the way down to the pan. Gotta get the oil down there somehow......

Decided to remove engine and rebuild. Any idea how to go about it? is there a engine pull/rebuild thread on here somewhere?

I've got a chilton manual coming in the mail but I'm afraid it's going to say something stupid like "remove engine". I've seen stupid stuff like that in manuals before.

Oh, the old Chilton's manuals were terrible for things like that!
- Remove hood.
-Remove air cleaner cover, filter and housing.
-Remove engine.

Know what ya meant there..... Try and find a factory service manual for your truck. You *might* be able to find one you can download for free. (in pdf format......)

Rebuilding a motor is NOT an undertaking for the faint of heart though. I hope you have a pretty extensive toolset..... Yer gonna need it.

Might check Youtube as well. I think there is a video out there for darn near anything you want to do.
