grinding sound while turning what is it?????

Question grinding sound while turning what is it?????

Tonight as I left the store my truck made a loud grinding sound like metal on metal while I turned right also it did it as I drove forward then after a few minutes of driving it wasnt as loud and could barley hear it.It was so loud i was going to call the tow truck but I made it home.Does anyone have a clue as to what this could be??thanks



03 ram 1500 4x4 hemi.

Could be anything. Pull a wheel off and inspect.

Sounds like possibly the ball joints, control arm bushings or a hub bearing.

I’ve never heard ball joints or control arm bushings grind. Squeak, yes, but not grind. He is describing a sound like worn pads on a disk. Bearings or cv joint. Or possibly brakes.

And, yes, of course, lift it and inspect. Spin the wheels, shake them side to side and up and down. Look for a split boot. All the things you would do to pinpoint where the noise is coming from.Then report back with us.

it ended up being the wheel hub.

I had something similar to this that I just diagnosed today. The symptoms were a groaning sound that was audible below 30mph when slowing to a stop; a wiggle in steering play; and, a grinding/clanging noise at times when backing.

This video does a great job for diagnosing bad bearing.
