Which ATF do you use?
mopar atf. Its has the proper friction co-efficients the trans friction material is designed for. Aftermarket fluid may (or may not...who knows) be made to meet a range of different products. my trans is made by fca corporate 545rfe so i used fca fluid.
If i had a zf, i might buy ag fluid instead of fca zf...it may even be the same?

for 65 Chevelle i use the cheapest Dexron i can get, it's a cheap TH350C off Craiglist so not worried about using cheap fluid, it has an external cooler
for 01 Ram i used valvoline the last time, basically whatever the autozone had, perhaps not the cheapest but close to it, it has an external cooler
for 2011 Ram, whatever the dealer puts in it is what we will use, if i were to do it i would insist (my wife rather) on dealer fluid, it has stock heavy duty cooling
for 2010 BMW i plan to use the expensive original ZF stuff, read a whole lot on these trannys, like Dodge it mentions lifetime fluid but i am doing mine at around 75K miles sometime next year, at the eight year period - stock cooling
I mention any extra cooling cause it will prolong the life of the fluid/tranny
