Default 4wd problems

i have a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500. It has the electronic 4wd ****. Every time I put it in 4 wheel high, the light comes on saying it’s locked in but the front wheels don’t spin. It just makes a bad clicking sounds like gears are slipping. Any ideas on what the problem is or how to fix it? Thanks

Does the front engage when you goto 4 lo ? Do the front wheels spin in 4 lo ?

No. The wheels don’t spin at all. Almost feels like gears are stripped somewhere.

Well then ... unfortunately there is a problem
There are three places the problem could be:
- the front differential pinion and ring gear (very unlikely)
- the front drive shaft from the transfer case to the front differential. Blown CV joint (possible)
- shift fork or pads out of place inside the transfer case. (likely). The fix is to remove the transfer case from the truck and disassemble, replace/repair what is found
- shift motor encoder faulting (likely). Remove the encoder motor and test.

Are there any grinding or gear crunching type sounds in normal driving (2wd?).

During driving in 2wd there are no grinding nosies. It’s jusr werid because the trucks 4wd worked great until a week ago. Just instantly stopped working, no lead up to it or me being rough on it.
