Transmission "buzzes" when putting it into drive
I have a 02 1500 QC and have no problems with anything except an annoying sound from the tranny when I am putting it into gear.
It is a buzzing sound that lasts for about 3 seconds after it is put into gear.
When looking this up in the service manual I saw the following causes:
BUZZING NOISE
CAUSES CORRECTION
1. Fluid Level Low 1. Add fluid and check for leaks.
2. Shift Cable Mis-assembled. 2. Route cable away from engine and bell housing.
3. Valve Body Mis-assembled. 3. Remove, disassemble, inspect valve body. Reassemble correctly if necessary. Replace
assembly if valves or springs are damaged.Check for loose bolts or screws.
4. Pump Passages Leaking. 4. Check pump for porous casting, scores onmating surfaces and excess rotor clearance.
Repair as required. Loose pump bolts.
5. Cooling System Cooler Plugged. 5. Flow check cooler circuit. Repair as needed.
6. Overrunning Clutch Damaged. 6. Replace clutch.
I have checked the fluid and it is at the proper level and color and the tranmission is not exibiting any other problems - just the buzzing noise for about 3 seconds after it is put in gear.
Is this something I should worry about or is this a normal thing?

If it's the buzzing while your putting it in gear, forward or reverse. Then every dodge ram from 2002 on does it. It's the electronic trans. shifting and I've been told it's completely normal.
Yup.mine does it for just over 1 sec.
If you notice, when you change from drive to reverse it will also make that sound.

i have an 04 HEMI Sport and it does it as well when shifting to reverse. i went to the dealer and they told me just to run it like that until if or when it brakes or what ever, thats what the warrenty is for. what a b*tch
