Ok I have been reading through the old posts and I ran across one about the Hemi 5.7 and it shutting down four cylinders at cruising speeds. Now I know the 06 will have the MDS system (mine is an 05 Quad 4x4) but from what I read I am a little confused. It seems some are saying they all do this maybe without the help of the MDS.

First of all, welcome to DF.

Only the 06+ with the MDS will have cylinders shut down. Everything prior runs all 8 all the time with all 16 spark plugs (in case you didn't know).

They may have been referring to the Hemi in another dodge vehicle. 06 is the first year for the Rams.

 

The 2005 Grand Cherokee and the 2005 Chrysler 300C were the first vehicles to implement the MDS system. I never thought I'd see a 4WD Jeep that got 31 mpg at cruise speeds lol.

 

I have a 06. You cannot tell when its running on 4 or 8.

 

How about the mileage? What are you getting?

 

All the cars with the 5.7 have had it since day one. Guess they just dragged *** getting it to the trucks. The 6.1, of course, so does not have it...
