Default mpg on 3.7 question

hello,
I have a 2004 ram 1500 standard cab with the 3.7l. I found a formula on this site to calculate mpg. Based on that formula, im getting 13.9 mpg! This is on light city driving on a highway littered with red lights. is this normal? I kinda remember the sticker stating that I should be getting 16city and 21 highway, give or take a few on those numbers.

the truck is all stock except for a over-rail aluminum lock box.

Thanks,

Joe

Remember, remember the 5th of November.
No seriously, remember you are pulling the weight of the truck with a smaller engine. I also thought the sticker said 19c/21hy. That's [sm=bs.gif]. Your problem is the red lights. When you take off you are using more power every time to move a heavy truck. I honestly believe what every other guy says, a truck must have a V8 or bigger. I think V8's get better MPG than us. Maybe we can do some research and find out where dogde gets their numbers and sue them for lying if the trucks never get those readings. My next truck will be an 8, but not dodge. They ruined the Ram with that fugly design.

How many miles on it, I have 3000 on mine, i drive it every day, granted it is mostly highway, but I hall ***, and I get damb good gas milage, my suggestion is to be easy in first since it is geared low, its not a red light to red light kinda truck, but i would say, my truck does 86 miles an hour at 2.5 rpm, who can beat that. i would love to know,

I agree. I love the fact that I stay under 3000 at high speeds. That's one thing I'll miss if I change gears to 3.55 or 3.73. But I'll guess it will also keep me from tickets.
Damn Spiff, I have 8700 miles and Max I got was 18mpg, moderatly driving 50c/50h. Its not bad, but still its hard to drive like a gramps to get it that high. Maybe I should use 89octane instead of 87 and try that.

I use 93, a flash to tell my truck i run higher octane plus i have a modified cai for ram air, and eltupac 18 is good for a 5000 lb beast, when im on the highway i get close to 22, and i am very happy with that, plus like i said i drive fast and all the mods i have have only made it better, the fastman makes a modified throttle body for the 3.7, its not a wow difference, cant make it to big, cause we lose performance, but i love mine and it is a modified oem, it passes right by the naked eye, the biggest difference is my home made cai, could tell right away and my g-tech proves it, i beat my boys 4.7 time 0-60 by .35

i have 35,900 mile on it right now and i think the rear is a 3.92 limited slip. i almost never let the rpms get over 2500 unless i get pissed off for some reason then i just floor it. for fuel, for the past 2 years, ive been using regular. just put a few tanks of premium lately and have notice the engine knock has gone down also. next time i do all highway driving ill keep track and see what i get.
