Default Truck pulling to one side after you let off the brakes at speed?? Here's my Fix!!!

2003 Ram 3500 Diesel 4X4 6 Speed DRW. During my last safety test the shop told me the truck was pulling to the drivers side during braking ( actually after you left off the pedal ). I knew there was something gong on so I trusted them when they said to change the calipers and she'll pass safety. Well, I was a bit dubious, but what the hell, it would be safetied right? So, I get the truck back to the shop after fitting the new recon calipers and it's a short slow drive between my house and the safety shop, not any 100km plus stuff for sure. Anyway, all is good, and I get a safety cert. A month later I am out on the highway, I hit the brakes and although they'd put you through the windshield, as soon as you let off the pedal it would chuck you into a ditch, given half a chance. Long story short, the metal support brackets that clamp the front brake hoses to the back of the front axle under the spring had rusted on the drivers side, so much so that the metal bracket had expanded compressing the rubber hose. When you brake, the fluid is forced through the compressed part of the hose under pressure as you would expect, and the truck would brake as you would expect. But, as soon as you let off the pedal the fluid would take extra time to release the caliper on the drivers side as it wouldn't 'flow back' up the hose as quick as the passenger side, causing the truck to swerve to the left. Fitted new front hoses this evening, took it for a drive at highway speeds, truck has never braked straighter since leaving the line!!! You guys living in the rust belt or up here in Canada, check those brackets, if they are rusty, change the hoses, it's cheap insurance from ending up in the ditch! Just thought I'd pass on my experience with my truck. Peace.

Actually, thats a pretty common failure for soft brake lines in general. Mounting clamp or no. In instances like yours, I prefer to change BOTH front hoses, as they both live in the exact same environment.

It’s not the rusted line holders, it’s the flex lines themselves. Best to replace all of them.
