Default Steering shaft play

Hi all, a few weeks ago I replaced the rack and pinion in my 2004 dodge ram and while I was doing it a made a mistake. When I was mounting the rack to the frame I used an impact gun to tighten it down. Everything seemed fine until I went to connect the steering shaft to the top of the rack when I realized that it had become pinned behind the top shaft of the rack that it's supposed to connect to. I figured it was probably fine seeing as it's good thick steel and just loosened off the rack to get it free and continued on. Now I'm noticing play in the wheel and a clicking which I'm not sure is related to the steering just yet, but it might be, so I thought I'd mention it just in case. Anyway, I'm really just hoping one of you guys could tell me what to check as I'm not sure and I don't really know. Is it bent, or is there a connection somewhere on the shaft that's screwed up? Thanks

Have someone else move the steering wheel, while you watch the various linkages, see what's moving, that shouldn't be.... or what's not moving, that should be.
