Default 2002 factory hitch question

Hey all,

Trying to figure out the specs on my factory hitch for my 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT. I think I figured out the tow capacity is 6750# (it's a V8, 4-speed auto with 3.55 trans).

It doesn't have a tow package, just the ball hitch on the bumper.

Need to figure the max weight I can get a travel trailer (everyone says no more than 80% of tow capacity), but also I can't figure out if I should install an aftermarket class IV hitch.

Any help much appreciated!

Mike

Default 2002 factory hitch question

Hey all,

Anyone know the tongue weight/towing capacity for 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4.7 3.55 axle with factory hitch (the one on the bumper, not the tow package)?

Trying to figure out if I need to upgrade to a Class IV hitch to tow a travel trailer.

Thanks!

Mike

OK so I think I've found through research that factory hitches on 2010 and older Rams are Class III. Can anyone confirm this?

That information should be stamped into the bumper. (provided you can still read it......)
