Default Differential problems

so while changing out the axle shaft I accidentally bumped out the spider gears and side gear. I put all the clutch packs together and reainstalled everything but the carrier pin will not fit between the axles now. Goes through the first spider gear but not he axles. Off by maybe a 16th or 32nd of an inch. I thought maybe he new shaft was a hair too long so I tried the original shaft and it’s doing the same thing! Something is blocking it but I can’t for the life of me figure out what. Been at it for hours taking the clutch plates out and back in thinking one of them was hanging it up but no luck. Cleaned everything shiny so it’s not grime or an object, it’s something I’m doing wrong I’m sure.

Any ideas?

Can you pull the axles out a bit, to get the pin to fit?
