PCM losing VIN from memory
Hoping someone can help. I have '07 2500 5.9 cummins. In the past 3 months I've had to get towed twice to a repair shop to have the VIN reprogrammed.
The scenario is: Truck runs fine, no signs of any issues, no engine light or any other lights.. Go to the store & when I come out to start truck it starts for 2 seconds & shuts down, everything else works fine, all accessories etc. I've tried disconnecting battery for a minute or 2. I've tried pulling the CCN module fuse. Nothing works.
The repair shop found the PCM lost the VIN out of memory. They reprogram it & it starts right up.
I took it to a dodge dealer & after hours of scanning and diagnostics they couldn't find a reason. When they went to start it to pull out the bay the WCM went amber on the computer, so there best guess is to replace the WCM.
Has anyone seen this issue? Am I going down the right path by replacing WCM? Is this something I can do myself? I am a pretty handy guy, but not sure if it's something the dealer has to configure.
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks
John
