What exactly are you referring to?

 

I'm referring to the two different superchips programmers; the older 3865 ever the newer 3845.

 

Newer is always better.

 

Same exact tunes, the difference is case size and screen/interface. If the 3865 is that much cheaper it's worth it.

 

so if you buy a used 3865 do we still have to upgrade the trans options or are they part of the tune package now when updating unit?

 

Trans tuning option is never free (not normally), usually have to pay for it. With an older tuner there is a chance that someone already did that; once it's on there, it's there.

 

Yep, the trans option cost me an extra $40 with mine. Honestly, I could not really tell a difference by just turning torque management off. Probably because I wrote a custom shift schedule that changed the shifting dramatically. Thats the plus side. Being able to write custom shift schedules.

so just borrowed a 3845 to play around with until I can get the 3865. in the shift pt settings, it only shows "stock shift points" and "superchips shift points". same thing with tq mgt, "stock tq mgt" and "superchips tq mgt"....

contacted the superchips cs to inquire, first time not with the truck and they confirmed that it should have additional settings below those two. so when I got back to the truck, I checked it over, looked for updates and downloads to no avail, then called them back. the next guy told me that's all that should be there. irritating. wasn't overly impressed with all the superchips settings and the shifting didn't seem much different.
