Default Cruise Control Works Intermittently

2002 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT with 4.7 engine. Cruise light comes on in the dash display but cruise won't engage. Tried a new switch on steering wheel but that didn't help. Checked vacuum lines but could not find a leak. The truck does idle rough but seems to drive without an issue.

It's either a vacuum issue (most likely) or your switches, but since you replaced them I don't think it's them.

Thank you. I will try to search down a solution along the vacuum lines.

Default Cruise Control

I was going to say the same thing sredish said. The ABS sensor. To be honest until 3 years ago when i had an issue with my cruise not working at all and by chance as well as luck i had to replace my front wheel bearings. After doing so my cruise has worked perfectly. Who knew... I was frustrated at point before my luck changed. I was amazed at the fact that the ABS sensor was the cure. I would check the connection at hub to make sure all is good.. hope it works. Let me know when you fix the problem as well as what it was. Ciao for now. PS. To me the only option i would want if i had to choose 1 would be Cruise Control.

Thanks for recommendation. I have other issues with the truck so I going to let a mechanic try to straighten everything out. I'll should know something in a few days.

Good luck. I have hand controls for throttle and brake, so I could not live without my cruise control.

I replaced the TPS before finally giving up and taking the truck into a mechanic. The mechanic found that the TPS that I replaced was defective. After installing a new TPS they were able to finally diagnosis that the problem with the cruise was in the servo. After replacing all is working properly.
