05 Ram 1500 4X4 w/ 5.7L - I installed keys and 35" tires and have blown 4 steering racks. After the first blown, I replaced w/ a Detroit Axle rebuilt and new pump. Flushed lines, reservoir and cooler. Rack lasted 1 month, got warranty replacement and flushed all. Next rack lasted 3 months, replaced w/ local auto supply rebuilt and flushed all, Rack blew out next day.
Does the stock steering rack have the guts to manage 35" x 11.5" off road tires?

 

It should...... what do your tie rod angles look like?

 

Lots of folks had 35's on here during 3rd Gen heyday, and I don't recall any recurring steering rack issues.

 

This is the second thread of this nature I have seen lately......

 

Maybe it's something now that these trucks are getting up in age?
