Default Transmission Diagnosis - 05 2500 Cummins

Hey all,
Just wondering if someone can give me a ball bark diagnosis on a transmission symptom.
My truck is an 05 2500 SLT with the cummins and is also 4x4 with the auto transmission.
Everything seems to work fine, just that recently when the operating temp gets into normal range, the progression from 1st to second gear (15-30 mph) it seems like it is sliding thru, never fully engaging or over revving thru the gear.
Is this something that can be fixed with a minor rebuild or is this going to lead to a failure at some point?
I'll admit I dont know anything about transmissions, so any input on what could be wrong would be appreciated.

Might be an electrical issue. Unplug the main electrical connector, you will have no O/D or automatic shifting. You'll have to shift it using the gear selector. If it could into the gear you tell it to then it's not mechanical it's an electrical issue.
