Default Think it needs to go

Hi my name is Sheila and I am taking over my dad's old Dodge ram 1500 truck. I have some experience working on vehicles but they've all have been Ford's.I've dealt with a few honest and helpful mechanics but it's mostly people that want to take advantage of a female driving a truck. never really figured out the purpose behind it but some things I'm trying to figure out how to do myself. So any help would be appreciated.

What year is the truck? You’ve come to the right place but we need to know the truck is to get you to the correct technical section.

Default Truck details

The truck I have is a 2005 Dodge ram 1500. My dad had the transmission replaced in 2016 but as I was driving it yesterday going about 60 I noticed the RPMs were over 4000 and climbing this way to 5000. I backed out the gas and allowed it to drop down below 2000 RPM but at that point I was only going about 30 so when I accelerate it again back up to 55 the RPMs went back up to 4,000. since the transmission has just been replaced I check the transmission fluid and it is at maximum level so I'm not sure what to do. I was on a long stretch of road between Virginia and North Carolina that was uncomfortable thinking the truck might leave me stranded on side of the road at 12 a.m.

Welcome to DF. You want to be in the third gen ram section. Detail your issue there, and folks should be able to help ya out. Include whether you are getting any codes or not please.
