Default ABS

ok, I just got my used 2005 1500 QC 4x4 SLT hemi. I dont have the original window sticker so I am not positive if I have ABS breaks or not. It's snowing alot here and I hit the breaks and the truck slid but I didn't fell any pulsating for ABS. When I start the car and all the lights flash there is an ABS light. I am not sure if this is a standard on all rams or not. Besides the window sticker is there any way of knowing if I have ABS or not? I didnt feel any pulsating but it could be broken.

Thanks

I was wondering the same thing on my new to me 02. When I start the truck I get an ABS light for a couple seconds then it goes out. It is snowing today and when I jacked on the brakes the truck just skidded. I didn't see an ABS controller under the hood either. On my old GMC when the ABS kicked in it sounded like the controller was going to come through the firewall it was so loud. So I am assuming that I don't have ABS even though I have the light.

Dodge has REAR ABS standard. You had to cough op the extra money for the 4 wheel ABS. Stupid move if you ask me, it should be standard at all wheels. I've only seen a few ful ABS trucks and all of them were Laramie models. It was a stand alone option, however, I rarely see them on anything else other than the expensive models.

If you have the ABS light on the dash, then you do have some form of ABS. That light is energized by a separate ABS computer when it does the initiation diagnostics

They all have the ABS in the rear. I read that it was because of the light weight over the rear axle, the rear axle will lock up faster then the front, therfor the ABS is a major benefit.

I personally don't like ABS. I mean, I understand that it is better then locking them up, but I don't like the way the pedal pulsates on your foot when you hit them. On a side note, I think I have never had to engage the ABS on the Ram in the year I have owned it. Time for a fact finding mission next time it snows

I have locked up the front on my truck, but only for the last 20 feet or so when I was going down a hill on wet pavement. Had some old blue hair pull out of a gas station. I'm glad I saw her starting to go, and started to brake already, knowing that she couldn't see me. Could change lanes or anything so just layed on the brakes. It wouldn't have been so bad, but she pulled out so SLOOOOW.

My '03 SLT has full 4 wheel ABS. I wouldn't have bought it without that option. When I bought the truck new, I noticed there weren't very many on the stealer's lot with it.

The '03 had rear wheel ABS standard. My 98 RAM 1500 also had rear wheel ABS standard. I don't think rear wheel only ABS does much for you.
