Default Help with shift solenoid

I have a 2007 ram 1500 4.7 v8 with about 140,000 miles on it. A while back the truck would start shifting by itself to what seems like 4th gear because it made the truck very slow to accelerate from a dead stop but when I got up in speed it wouldn’t shift to 5th. Once I’m up in speed it’s fine, it feels basically like your driving a standard but staying 4th all the time. I used to just turn the truck off and back on and it would fix it for a couple days. But now it’s constant. I brought it to have the check engine light checked and it said “shift solenoid A malfunction” so what I’m wondering is, is that something I can buy and replace and do you think that will fix my problem? Thank you!

Sounds like the shift solonoid inside the transmission is on its way out. I would get a hold of a scanner and see what codes are present. From there I would disconnect the battery and then disconnect the large harness connection on the driver side of the transmission and clean bothe the female side and male side with electronics cleaner and blow it all out. Then reconnect and see if things are better.

if not, your looking at dropping the transmission pan, and pulling and replacing the shift solonoid. Change both filters while your in there.

good luck.
