Default Suncoast Creations hood, please read if you are going to buy a hood

Here is my saga. Not a fun saga and wanted to let everyone on this forum know of my dis-pleasure.

Ordered my Suncoast Creations hood on Oct. 24th from Gadget Motorsports. I want to make it clear I never had an issue with Gadget Motorsports, they were helpful through the process. Anyhow, The hood arrived on Nov. 17, just under 4 weeks delivery. To me 4 weeks is a little extreme, but that is not why I am writing this. When the hood arrived the manufacturer (Suncoast) failed to package the optional parts to make the hood functional. That is where my dis-pleasure started. I called Gadget Motorsports on the 18th to report this issue. They in turn called Suncoast and were told it would ship that Friday (18th).

OK, on with the project, smooth sailing, nope!

The following week was Thanksgiving, short work week (I shipped my stuff to work to save on shipping charges). Mon, Tue and Wed pass, not functional parts. Should have took 3-4 days ground. I was on vacation the following Mon and TUe. I fully expected to have my parts when I got back in on Wed, were they? NO! I called Gadget again. This time I got the number for Suncoast and called them directly. They assured me that my parts would be there on Thu, which they were. But... The Ram Air decals were not in the box. This is part of the package. The guy on the phone even verified the color I wanted. I was fed up with it. I was not certain I wanted to even use the decals so I never called back. It would have been a ugly call anyhow.

So those are my shipping and delivery issues. Basically, I think their customer service SUCKS!!!!!

Is this it? NO!

After I primered the hood and preped for paint I decided to put it on my truck to make sure it would fit OK. Good thing I did. Where the hood meets and forms the line with the passenger fender there was a HUGE gap! Take note, my truck is a 2005 with 9K on it. I bought it new and it has never been in an accident. Starting about mid way on the hoods edge to the front of the hood the gap between the hood and fender flaired out to just over 1/4" bigger in the front than in the rear, which the rear was the correct gap. This really got me going as well. So I go to the store and buy some renforced glass and begin to fix THEIR SCREW UP. I built out the edge to make a "good" line. I wish I would have took pics of the hood on the truck before adding glass. But I did take pics of the in work progress of building it out and the final product. Just imagine if the 1/4" of material were not there in the completed pic!

The other thing, quaility wise, that I am not happy with is the alignment of the grill to the hood. It is not smooth, there is a lip. I did everything I could when putting on the grill and it was a good as it was going to get.

I am not saying do not buy a Suncoast Creation hood. I am just telling you my nightmare with their below average customer service and the quality of my hood. I personally will not buy any Suncoast Creation product and if a perspective customer ever mentions their name in my presence I will tell them about my experience.

I did mentioned to them when I called about the functional parts about the hood alightment issues. The person the the phone said it must have been cut a little short and left it at that. Did not seem surprised nor concerned.

This is pretty common on most fiberglass replacement parts. I worked at a body shop for a while and people came in a lot looking for hoods to be fit and painted. Very rarely was one close to fitting from the start, every single one of them needed a good amount of work.

There were a few companies that would ship your hood painted. I am guessing those are the companies you want to do busniess with. If they are confident enough to paint the hood it is probably a quality product, or in this case not confident enough.....

I'm sorry about your experience. Goes to show one should always trial "fit" any custom part before going any farther with it. I had a decklid once with a similar problem. Called and told the company it was unusable and to send some one to pick it up, which they did--at their expense.

As for being "common" for fiberglass parts, it may be with some, but there definitely are companies who know what they are doing and produce parts that fit correctly. Obviously, the clowns at Suncoast aren't part of the latter. If enough people like you publicize your experiences and it affects sales, things might change.

Thanks for the report.

All the best.

Try using aftermarket parts Doors, fenders, rockers, partial floor, rad cradle and cowl induction hood. Only thing that fits good is the hood and fenders. Doors suck, they leak make noise nobody can fix them..lazy buggers.
