Default Trans temperature reading from OBDII port scanner?

I have a 2004 1500 with the Hemi and 3.55 gears, factory towing package. I use it only to tow a travel trailer a few times a year. It pulls fine (had to replace the aftermarket exhaust the previous owner installed-I was going deaf while towing!) but I am concerned about the tranny. It has a max tow rating of 7900 lb, and I am at about 7000 loaded for travel. It's a standard cab, long box, and I am within all the other weight ratings.
I'd like to monitor the tranny temperature, and was wondering if anyone has used one of those cheapy OBDII Bluetooth readers with any success? My understanding is they can show tranny temps, but only if the truck can output the info-looks like 2007+ models can, just wondering if anyone has had success with a 2004?

Anything newer than 96 can monitor trans temp, problem becomes the software you are using. The 'cheap' stuff simply won't tell you. I *think* torque pro can read it.....

A friend has one of those cheap $25 OBDII Bluetooth ones from Amazon, and it tells him everything (he uses Torque Pro) but his car is new. I am just wondering if back in 2004 Dodge was able to output that info...

Thanks for the quick response.

My 96 would output that info. So, yeah, pretty much anything with an electronic governor is going to know trans temp.

Torque Pro is good stuff.
