Sort of like the robot Bender on Futurama when he wished to become human and got really fat and died.

I also found the tie rods are had. I bought a bearing and tie rods and plan to replace them today. I did everything, raised and spun the wheel, checked top and bottom, front to back movement, everything seems tight but I can't take a chance and wait for it to fail again.

I bought this truck new, used it a lot, has over 245K and the body is badly rusted out. Its been a good truck but its at the end of its life. Finances right don't allow for a new truck so if I can get it through one more winter I'll be happy.

The parts will probably run the same, or a little less, than one new truck payment. Anything else you get out of the truck will be gravy then. I had an '84 once that was just shy of 400K when the tin worms got to the frame and the rear end blew out again. Even then, I sold it for about what I paid for it 20 years previous.

When I started driving it it seemed to drive fine but about a block the truck developed a grumble, it seemed in the front right, and came to almost a complete stop. I didn't notice much of a pull to either side. I drove it the rest of the way to my house with a strong drag in the front, sounded like metal on metal. I took my wife using her car. When I came back home I put the truck up on jack stands and could not find any thing making noise, nothing seemed loose. I took the truck down and drove it up and down the road tracing the path my wife drove this morning, no problem. I drove up and down the road a couple of miles and no problem. I did turn it left to go down a road and I made a noise similar to this morning but not as loud. I drove it back home and again put it up on stands. I can't find anything. I do get a metalic clanging noise from the middle of the front driveshaft between the transfer case and front axle when I spin it by hand. I also replaced the front left CV axle last week.

I would check cv axle and make sure its secure an in proper place,,I had a 2007 2500 4x4 once that that front Pinion Flange go out and brought truck to a complete stop ,,unsure about yours having this but it will grind ,,perhaps check oil level in front an rear differentials , make sure there not low as this led to the flange failure

I've keeping this truck alive piece by piece for the last 5-6 years. We bought it new, paid it off in four years. So I also see replacing parts once in a while a lot cheaper than payments for a new truck. I average about maybe $300 a year in major, non-maintenance repairs a year. This truck has been really good. I have a lot of people, many Chevy owners, give me a hard time about owning a Dodge. I had a new '96 that was a good truck and traded it in on this truck. The frame, as far as I can tell, is still in good shape, unlike many of the Chevys of the same vintage with broke in half frames. The body on my old Dodge is just going. The tailgate will probably fall off one of these days when I open it. The lips around the rear wheels are pretty much non existent, rockers are half gone and I got T-boned a few weeks ago in the driver's door but it keeps plugging away. If I can make it through another salt filled Wisconsin winter I'll be happy.

I'm pretty sure my '04 1500 is almost a completely different animal underneath than a 2500. My in-laws have an '06 2500 4x4 and they have a straight axle under theirs.
