I have a 2003 ram 1500 with a blown 4.7 in it and would like to replace it with the 5.9l gas engine. What all would I have to do to make this swap work?

 

I think you would be better off going with the 5.7 hemi since it was offered in that model year so you can buy a whole parts truck and swap what you need over.

 

Yes I get that a lot.. but what would I need to do to put a 5.9l in

 

Find a truck with a 5.9 in it, grab the engine (complete, all the accessories as well), trans, wiring harness, PCM, frame-side engine mounts as well, and probably a bunch of little stuff. I think 03 was the last year for the 5.9 in the rams...... may have been 02 in the 1500's. 2500/3500 2002 trucks were still second gens.

 

More trouble than it's worth. It would actually be easier to swap over a hemi into a 4.7 truck than swapping in a 360. While the 360 was available 02 to mid 03 (replaced by the 5.7 mid year), it uses a very different electronic control system and different trans. 4.7 uses similar elex and uses the same trans. The real question here is do you have not just the mechanical but electrical and electronic know how and capability to swap modules around, rewire, program/flash modules, etc?
