02 ram 1500 4.7 need help!!!!!
Just bought a 02 ram 1500 with the 4.7. I’ve owned it 4 days and the tps keeps going out and would shut off and not start for hours or until I replaced the tps (previous owner told me he had this problem 4 times in the last year) I’ve had it happen 6 times in the last 4 days. The last time I changed it I made it about 1000 feet and it shut off and started back firing out of the exhaust and intake while cranking. I pushed it off the road and let it sit over night. Next morning jumped in and turned the key and it fired right up but had a miss. I got it back to my house and it had a crank sensor code so I replaced the crank sensor and camshaft sensor. Now it stays running but still has the miss. I replaced all 8 plugs still has the miss. Pulled the coils one at a time all have good spark. Did a compression test today and 5 out of 8 cylinders have 150lbs and the other have 125-130lbs and they all hold steady on the gauge. I bought a reman computer and had it programmed to my vin thinking it had to do with the tps but the tps code keeps popping up then it’ll go out. Also getting a p0300 code for multiple miss fires. Anyone have any ideas what’s going on with this truck.
That compression shouldn’t give you a major problem, if you have good spark to the spark plugs next thing would be making sure you have the correct fuel pressure. The 4.7 should have a valve in the fuel rails to do that, if pressure is in the correct range continue with the fuel injectors. Maybe do a fuel test to make sure you didn’t pick up bad gas.
Well! That was helpful! I wish I knew that before I bought my ‘06 Ram with a 4.7. Darned thing must be faulty. Runs like a champ, discounting the exhaust manifold gasket that needs to be changed. 14 years and 175K. I got screwed.

Anyway, make sure you're using Mopar sensors, especially that crank sensor. I've read of people having trouble with aftermarkets countless times in these forums.

LOL I'm at 311K on this 4.7L and running like new with no rebuilds. Great engines if you practice simple maintenance like keeping oil and coolant in it.

You people must be lucky. I can't tell you how many 4.7 Jeeps, Durangos, Dakotas, and Rams I have seen with blown engines, just a quick search on Marketplace and I can usually find close to a dozen vehicles with a bad 4.7, they are getting hard to find at the local junkyards as well.
