2002 RAM PARK indicator and not going there
Well first Happy Thanksgiving to any here..
I suspect this has been already gone over but thought I'd give this problem one more go.
Truck will shift into park (can remove the key) but dash indicator is in "R".
Can't remove the key in drive ect so not the recall issue afaict.
Problem is dash indicator won't go past Reverse.
Can't start the truck in park w/ indicator in "R". Can start the truck in Neutral.
We had lots of rain /snow and truck sits outside. I've had very intermittent problems w/ shifting to "1" like 5 times in 10 years but that goes away
when tranny is warmed. As far as I can tell was only when very cold outside. To be honest never checked if it was just the indicator or actually not going into gear..
Thoughts?

Probably just needs an adjustment. Since the trans actually goes into park, I think there is a cable that goes to the column that tells the cluster what gear it thinks it should display.
Seems to be the neutral safwty switc. Plugs filled w/ tranny fluid..
Easy and cheap fix/test BUT the 2 screws aren't as easy to remove as shown on the one vid I saw.
There is a bracket attached to the tranny that may or may not be in the way of removal..
Since I'm working in close to freezing temps and outside on a concrete slab I'm trying to se if anyone actually removed it w/out removing said bracket..
Screws are hard enough to get to and prob. even harder to put back.. w/ that bracket BUT really don't want to get stuck 1/2 way here..
like if I can't get it around the bracket and off and on..
In this vid at 2:16ish you can see the ear casting to the right of the switch he's pointing to. I've got a bracket and cable going to the tranny at that point..

Great find jeffkrol
Did clean the tranny fluid out of the connector and ran the truck for awhile.. Helped for 3 days.. Went out again today..
My tranny "guy' is a bit booked atm. What happens when you are reasonably priced and good..
Just going to let him swap it out. Can check a few things also..
