Just trying to rule out I did the timing wrong before I tear it all apart again.

What if I was a tooth off on the passenger side?

How would the truck run being a tooth off?

would it even start?

what is the chances I screwed something else up along the way? ( If so where or what should I look for )

what is a compression test going to tell me if the timings off? ( before I have to go rent/buy one )

I did get a code P0306 for a short time yesterday. I have had multiple codes come n go with in the past few days. the truck was running perfectly ( Idle/running flawlessly ). even with the broken chain tentioner.

In your first post you said you installed timing set correctly. Only you will know that.
With the updated info you provided (running good before disassembly) I would suggest you recheck your work starting with the easiet first....wiring connections etc

Second guessing myself about the timing. Last night went through and reconnected all the plug wires and injector wires and all the extra wires i took off. Guess ill have to take it all back apart again to check the timing.

I know all about second guessing. the older you get the worse it is. Maybe hold off ripping it back apart. Give some other guys a chance to post some suggestions

Was it still running smooth with the broken tensioner?

is the 4.7 a free-spin motor? I.E. if you lose a chain, do the valves meet the pistons???

Well I tore it apart again last night... Noticed a couple things, The harmonic balancer back rubber piece was rubbing on the cover. NOT really sure why. ( is it because i used the timing chain cover gasket that came with the kit ) I also noticed the tentioner pistons have this (sorry for the wrong term) ratchet arm thing that comes up with the piston that holds it from retracting. which wasn't fully extended.

The timing was correct, Chains were put on correct.

Not sure about the harmonic balance touching and not sure if i should use the gasket that came with it. That's a 3 mm gasket. would this be the reason my harmonic balancer was touching the cover???

Yes it was running smooth. I did not loose a chain, the pictures above show the before and after. you can notice the missing plastic from the tentioner. i would assume if i drove it another week or two the truck would have prolly thrown a chain. and yes the 4.7 has an intermediate engine.
