Default 35-45 MPH runs rough - vibration

2008 1500 SLT V8 5.7L 2WD

110,300 miles

Recently started: vibration and engine seems to be louder at 35-45 mph. Smooths our after 45 mph and smooth at 0-34 mph.

spark plugs changed 15k miles ago.

new sway bar bushings.

break pads still good

clean air filter

new belt

new front and rear shocks

bushings and sway bar and tie rods look good

new tires 20”

Considering U-Joint replacement (are there 2 on the drive shaft?? And if so, are they the same part??) or transmission torque converter issue...any other suggestion are needed.

Thank you!!

where do you feel the vibration....steering wheel shimmey or vibration thru the floor of the vehicle?
does the vibration change under accel or deceleration?
most common vibration concerns are tires or driveshaft related.
the 2 piece driveshafts...depends on the wheelbase.

Thanks for your input...
More road noise and vibration on floorboard and driver door; the steering column seems unaffected. Acceleration=noise; let off the gas and reduce rpms=same noise; only happens from 35-45 mph...

Had issue before new tires installed. In fact, I thought that the road noise was due to the balding tires. After I installed new tires, the same issues persisted.

Could it be an alignment issue (I doubt it) or should I go with the u-joints and take it from there?

May be a bearing going out.

+1 bearings and tires growl, with wheel bearing the noise may change/louder or quieter... as the vehicle is swayed.. this loads and unloads the vehicle.

ujoints usually squeak. to rule them out I would remove the drive shaft and move the yolk in all directions...should feel smooth

Thanks! I never thought of the bearings. They may be the culprit. I will swap them out this weekend and let you know!

Hmmm. I like this idea. I did not think of this as an option. I will let you know an update when the work is done!

Find a smooth curvy road and see if the noise changes as you go left and right at speed. On my '02, the noise definitely changed so I replaced the L.F. bearing. Checking the R.F. while it was up and it was in worse shape than the other one was.

HeyYou
You are AWESOME!

I just spent the last four hours changing out the front wheel bearings. First timer here so it may have taken longer than others. Got the Beast on the road and BAM! NO MORE VIBRATIONS AT ALL!!! It is a smooth, smooth ride now. Thank you so much for that bearing tip. You saved me time, frustration and $$$.$$

If you are ever in Texas, shoot me a message and I'll buy you a Shiner beer and a BBQ brisket sandwich.

FYI-Part I replaced is two Duralast front wheel bearing hub assembly #DL500101 @ $123.99/each

If I am going to find myself in Texas, I will be sure and give you a heads-up. Beer and brisket sounds tasty.
