Default 4x4 vs 4x2

Currently test driving dodge 1500 4x2 2005
Live in the South, do very little 4 wheeling, an occasianal trip to NY in the winter but overall what are the pros and cons besides it being a tad cheaper with the 4x2 vs the 4x4

4x4 will have better resale but worst gas milege depending what rear end ratio you get. Sandbags and decent tires work 99% of the time for a 4x2. Unless you go to an area with no snow plows and a foot of snow everyday. 4x4 help you go faster in the snow but can't stop you!

Cons: Higher initial cost, higher insurance premiums, uses more fuel, more things to fix (especially the electronic transfer case), more things to maintain, etc, etc, etc.

Pros: There when you need it, higher ground clearance, pulling boat up slippery ramp, pulling trees down in 4Lo LOL

I've driven plenty of 2wd trucks in some pretty deep snow and never had a problem. I always kept some sandbags and other ballast in the bed. Evens out the weight distribution.
I've never been stuck in the snow(except for the first time where I learned my lesson).

I've passed many a 4x4 stuck in a snowdrift because the driver was overconfident.

But now I got a 4x4 because I want to go wheeling. I've done plenty of wheeling in my 2wd's, but I can't do much more than trail riding, but now I can do almost anything.

I will probably never go back to a 2wd unless it's a classic truck which I would make into some kind of hot rod.
