Default 5.9L Gas engine motor swap

Hello guys a little help. I have a 2003 1500 with a 5.9l gas, I need to put another motor in due to a piston breaking and locked down. What years will fit in this truck? I've heard only year 2003-2004 will fit, but not sure. Any help will be appreciated.

I'd like to know where you heard that lol, as the 5.9/360 was discontinued mid-2003. For best fit, find a 2002-2003. The important thing is to make sure it has the correct crank tone wheel on it.

Sorry my mistake yes 2002-2003. What do you mean by crank tone? My local salvage yard has a u pull it section, I don't want to pull the wrong one out. My vin engine code is Z, do I look for year model and engine code Z? My first engine swap as you can tell.. Lol

Any 5.9 gas motor from around 93 and up will work. Just need to transfer the manifolds and sensors from your original motor, to the new one. Nothing really changed internally on them, and there is no tone ring on the crank on the 5.9. Crank sensor bolts to the back of the block, and reads from the flex plate.
