Default Truck fuel system

So went to start my truck the other day and it cranked but wouldn’t turn over then I noticed that fuel was coming out of the top of the tank when my fuel pump is any thought? 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 with 179k

Sounds like sending unit rusted. I see it all the time on many various trucks I work on (and I live in heavy rust area)

most likely needs fuel pump assembly which is also sending unit

If this is the case, then you'd might as well try to replace everything that is included with fuel. Lots of things could be rusted/worn out and it's a safer bet to just replace everything at once (as long as it doesn't break your wallet).

If he gets the fuel pump assembly then the only other thing would be the gas lines....on my 02 I can get right to my pump without dropping tank. Only need to lower tank to slide assembly out. Other than that you should be able to get to everything right through wheel well...at least on mine with the 8foot bed you can....gravy job, even if fuel lines are rusted, it takes about a half hour to bend/cut/flair/install new lines.
