Default Clear coat flake?

I believe the clear coat is peeling off of my hood. If i were to sand this down and spray it with clear coat would it blend in with everything? Anyone have any experience

with this?

Yeah, that is the clear lifting. I once used a straight razor to remove the clear from a fender, but I didn't try to save the base coat. In my case the clear came off pretty easily. I think sanding it would go right through the base coat before you got the smooth transition you're looking for. Standard process would be to sand it, seal it, base, then clear. I often just go for single stage rather than base/clear because its faster and cheaper - and less trash I have to cut and polish out.

The ONLY way to repair it is to sand it down and start over. It’s poor adhesion between the base and clear. If you try to sand the edge of the clear, you WILL go through the base. The clear layer is thicker than the base color, so there’s no way to avoid it.

Plus if you did get lucky and not go through the base, the sand scratches in the color will change the appearance of the color itself, therefore it will no longer match.

If you're able to afford it and feel it’s worth having repaired, then yes.

Thats just the grill flaking.

Just take it off and have it repainted. If its over 150 - 200 go someone where. If you leave it on it will cost more. Sanding it down with a DA wont take long. 10-12oz of paint should be more than enough.
