I have a 2003 3500 and I was wondering if anybody knew of any good led bulbs that they have tried personally in that housing. Of course they need to be nice and bright and have a good beam pattern, and not breaking the bank would be a plus. I have had some bad luck with led bulbs in the past, and its been some pretty weird stuff, i.e. turning the fog lights on and my high beams come on, the bulbs do a super quick flash when I open the door, or they sometimes turn off momentarily when I switch from high to low beam.
Well no matter what LED bulbs will be as good as halogen bulbs for your truck, unless you buy an aftermarket assembly that is designed with LEDs. This is because the OEM headlight assemblies were designed for the beam that comes from halogen bulbs, so any other type of light will not really project correctly. You also need to run resistors for LED bulbs since the truck will go crazy and think that you have bulbs out.
I converted to LEDS (I have a Dakota). First thing happened... low beams were high and high beams were low. I ended cutting the headlight wires and reversing the polarity. Most sellers will send you a converter for things like that. Also, canbus conversion, etc.
The bulbs I got are 9007, which will be the same as yours, however they are no longer available. They claimed to be 1200 lumen and indeed are pretty bright. Definitely an improvement over the halogens.
Whatever you get, make sure they are high lumens and make sure you adjust them properly to not blind oncoming drivers.
