ORIGINAL: reddemon Possibly not even a Dodge Ram owner

WHAT'S NOT THE PROBLEM

1. TERRIBLE FUEL MILEAGE
DUH
2. LOUD BANGING NOISE COMING FROM REAR END (DEALER CAN'T FIND IT)
Not a common Ram problem, probably doesn't exist or highly exaggerated.
3. 2 VERY LOUD RATTLES INSIDE CAB (DEALER CAN'T FIND IT)
Not a common Ram problem, probably doesn't exist or highly exaggerated.
4. HAD TRUCK IN 4 TIMES FOR THE TIRES WEARING UNEVENLY, DEALER HAS DONE 4 ALIGNMENTS,CORRECTED THE TOE AND BALANCED THE TIRES, STILL HAS SAME PROBLEM
Probably driver related
5. THIS WILL BE MY LAST DODGE FOR SURE, THANK GOD IT'S A LEASE AND I ONLY HAVE 26 MONTHS TO GO[/size]
I expect Dodge will be pleased as well.

Ok first of all, 4.x4 hemi, of course your not going to get the gas mileage you got from your honda, second trucks make noises, they are big and they aren't cadillacs, relax. third, you have an 05, how bad have your tires worn in the past year that you've had 4 alignments and then the amount of miles to drive to be sure the problem wasnt solved? did they give you new tires everytime and they still wore terribly that fast, doubtful. is this the first truck you ever owned?

STFU - you lease a truck not own it ?? - - Sounds like your streching your pocket book so you can be a part of the dodge / truck community?

Why lease a truck? I see no benifit in leasing a truck. Does it ever feel like its yours - where you planning on buying this truck after the lease was up?

Hey moron most people lease their trucks. Myself included. Why would I want a depreciating asset? I beat it up for two years, then turn it in for a new one. No maintenance expense besides oil changes. And I pay less for the truck. I'm leasing a $36000 truck for 148.56 a month with 500 down. I'd have bought it for 26000. My payment would have been 525 a month. So I save 375 a month and pay for no maintenance. And get a new truck every two years. But I'm the idiot right?

easy on the moron stuff...

I don't know if "most" people lease their truck, but I don't. I'm glad leasing was a good idea for you, as I would rather own my truck in the end. As a side note of my own opinion, I think the mfg's have been using the lease option to shift the marketplace in such a way that they can raise pricing on vehicles -- if the average person could only afford to buy a $15-20k vehicle, and they can let you rent one that costs twice as much for a similar payment, a lot of people are drawn (see, I avoided the word suckered) in. Of course, when the lease runs out and they have to go back for another vehicle, then reality sets in that they have no equity, trade, or anything to start over with again -- leaving them scrambling for another down payment and stuck back in a lease once again. Compound that with the potential for post-lease fees on mileage overruns or vehicle damage.

Again my own opinion, but if you can't afford the sticker price, then don't buy it. I couldn't, so I bought a certified pre-owned for half the price. Getting in over our heads has become the American way and the repercussions are starting to show.

Back to your original questions, what did the dealer do about the alignment/tires? Once they wear oddly, they usually don't come back. When I bought my truck, it pulled to the right -- two alignments later and it still pulled. After a few respectful and pleasant conversations with the dealer, we agreed to split the cost on new rubber and yet another alignment which ultimately solved the problem. Tires can develop a radial pull in one direction, causing alignment problems and further tire wear -- has the dealer put on new rubber yet, or at least tried swapping wheels with another truck to see if it changes the situation?

what difference does it make if he bought it or leased it?

If he has problems with the truck he has problems with the truck.

*Iengle...
this isnt a debate on how us americans feel about being suckered into buying things we cant afford and living beyond our means.
good for you if you dont practice that...fact of the matter is...he has a nice brand new power wagon with a hemi and you have a pre-owned 4.7. I doubt he cares how it got to his driveway...as long as thats the truck he wanted and he has it.

I probably shouldnt have bought a 40k laramie and dumped 6k into it...but i did.....and im happy with the truck moreso than I would be with a cheaper model. Ive lost LOTS of money on buying new vehicles and trading them in....SO WHAT! probably not smart to do....and I would have quite a few thousand more in my account if i didnt do that....but I like my vehicles so I really dont care.

preach to someone else....

So you were able to get a lease payment of less than 150 with only 500 down???? HOW THE HELL DID YOU DO THAT!!!! lol

usually....I cant find a lease deal on a 20-25k car for less than 200-250 a month with 2000 down!!!

The numbers for Chrysler is that about 65-70 percent of retail sales are leasing. In metro Detroit alone that number is 85-90 percent. The moron comment was because of the stupidity of the person I quoted. Just because someone is leasing the vehicle does not give them less of a say about the vehicle.

Most people get rid of their car within 3-5 years of buying it. If you do it at 3 years you'll be lucky to get what you owe on it. If you wait till you pay it off you may get a few grand for it, but you paid a lot more during those five years. Most leases are 0-1000 dollars down. So down payment is usually not a problem. Buddy of mine did a comparison with me. He too feels the same way as you do. Till we compared numbers. He bought a 2000 cherokee new for 21000. I leased a grand cherokee for 250 a month. Then I leased a liberty for 225 a month. The gc was a 36 month lease the liberty was a 24. So total I put in 14280, plus a grand for the two down payments. For a total of 15280. He paid the 21k plus about 1000 in interest. Plus two sets of tires for 480 a set, a set of brakes for about 250 and shocks and struts for about 500. So his total was 23710. Now yes he owns his truck now but its only worth about 5000 on a trade. So 23710-5000 is 18710. That is how much his cherokee has cost him to own it. Thats over 3000 more than it cost me to own two vehicles. But hey whatever works for you man!

Gee, 05ramlaramie, guess that struck a wrong cord -- didn't want to get your panties all up in a bunch. So, now I'm a lesser person because I bought preowned and don't have a Hemi? I think I made it pretty clear that those were my own opinions, so I'll gladly offer you and anybody else an apology.

It's all good, you like your truck and I'm happy with mine.

Nice example, Joe, and good homework. For the mileage I run every year, even when offloading about half to the motorcycles, it never made fiscal sense for me.

Anyone can do the math...and determine what is a smarter financial decision for them to make.

I for one...just like ALOT of people that are on internet forums...like to modify my vehicles. Cant do that if you lease. But if you only want to tint your windows and put in a stereo....go ahead and lease.

I cant lease because I usually dump between 4-10k into vehicles worth of engine mods and sound and appearance.

I might consider leasing a new honda civic ex though as a daily driver...cause i cant stand driving in long island traffic with this gas guzzler anymore....im gonna put it aside or bring it to my home upstate and use it for pulling my trailer and going upstate and back only.

I do several mods on my trucks. But thats the catch. I keep leasing the same truck! I'm on my third ram. I've had a 02, 04, and now I have an 05. So I just keep taking the parts off of the old and put them onto the new! (The vehicles in my example were my wifes cars.) I understand not leasing because of mileage constraints. That was one of many contributing factors when my wife and I decided where to move. She knew if we moved too far from work our "new car every two years" package was done.

To answer the lease payment question.

1. Live in the Detroit area.

2. Be or know a dc emp, which I am.

3. Wait till end of model clearance!

hmmm...Well Joe...I don't lease a truck,it is futile and pointless. At least at the end of my 3 years I have somethign that is MINE! Can you say that? Big deal that you get anew one every 2 years. Are you bragging or complaining? Bet you live in the mobile home community huh?
