Sort of hijacking this. I'm a newbie so let me know if its not the done thing.
Have a 2004 Ram 1500 4.7 Am having a series of issues, fix one another pops up. Trying to isolate issues. I am in Costa Rica in the wilds. My usual mechanic is a good guy but not a Dodge guy, there aren't any in my neck of the woods. One of the issues raised the issue of which coolant. It seems that someone in the shop thinks an "oiler" coolant is better. I think they are referring to anti-freeze, which obviously no one uses down here. Are there different grades of coolant? The one I use is green.

Yes there are. There are different coolant types for different vehicles. These trucks are meant to get H.O.A.T. coolant according to the factory manual. Green coolant is known to be the most common/very generic type, also usually being the cheapest. These trucks don't like cheap coolant, hence why people learn the hard way.
