Default 2006 4.7L upgrades

I have an 06 1500 with the 4.7L non flex-fuel I’m looking to do some performance upgrades too. I plan to do the 08 intake manifold swap and do a straight pipe cold air intake, a tuner, and maybe the exhaust to a true duel just to start. I don’t expect to get much for the price but my main question is this—

I want to replace the throttle body for a larger opening 70-72mm or larger(in case I sink more into upgrades later) but as I research for a throttle body that will fit I am having trouble finding one. Does any have any idea where I can find what I am looking for?

I would like to change the clutch powered radiator fan out with an electric powered one, I have seen a few that would work but unsure of how it gets the power and how the ecm would control it.

The electric fans aren't that great for these trucks as far as I've seen...

Good luck lol....the 4.7 was largely overlooked in this area even when it was in production. As you have them listed:
1. 08 manifold swap good, will need the non-FBW adapter (airram.com).
2. CAI - good for noise, but not much else....homebrew and aftermarket ones generally raise your IAT's as well.
3. Tuner - see if you can find an unlocked Superchips 3865; it'll be cheaper and more than capable of what can be done with your platform.
4. True duel - a duel? Does anyone do that anymore? Guns or swords? Were you challenged or are you challenging someone?
5. Larger throttle body - waste of $$ on your stock engine. The point of a larger TB is to let more air in; what is the point of this if nothing else has been changed to make use of this extra air?
6. The rad fan is not powered by the clutch lol, that's just how it is controlled. At speed it's designed to stop spinning unless needed. Electric fan swaps have been done for years on these though. Flex-a-lite 180 and the fan from an early 90's 3.8 Ford Taurus (apparently works very well and cheap found used). It gets power by you wiring it in to the truck's 12v system. The PCM does NOT control it and there is no way to make that happen, which is why you use a thermostatic switch to control it. Literally a metric f@ck ton of write-ups on electric fans in these trucks going back quite literally to 2002-2003.

thanks for the information. I’m not very knowledgeable on vehicle upgrades and repairs. I do my own whenever possible by google, YouTube and this forum. But actually knowing how and why things on a vehicle work is way beyond me. I’m looking for ways to keep my little 4.7 pulling my small tool trailer healthy and without struggle or having to buy another truck.

My Money would be spent on gears and electric fan. Fresh plugs and clean filters... engine temperature gauge be nice too!

That right there, especially if you have a quad cab. With a smaller less powerful engine, increased mechanical advantage becomes your biggest bang for the buck. As the lowest factory set is 3.92, you'd have to get 4.56's installed and set up. If you have a 4x4 you have to do both ends.

For the Cold Air Intake consider the Airaid Jr Kit (or the easy DIY version of this kit, there's a write up on another forum for the DIY but not sure if there's one on here). It basically gets rid of the "silencer box" and replaces the regular filter for a re-useable one. Airaid description : "AIRAID Jr. Kit intake system 301-725 is for 2002-2007 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7L V8 owners seeking a simple, economical, performance enhancement".

Here is what I’ve done to my 05 4.7.
electric fan conversion, air raid tube like posted above, headers, exhaust, tuner, gears (392), trans booster and lift. Did 1 of these things make a big difference by itself? No. But all of them together did make a big difference in power and gas mileage.

If that's the main concern, I wouldn't focus on "performance upgrades." It's one thing if the vehicle is recreational, but another if you depend on it beyond that. I'd focus on fluid maintenance and proper lubrication. Rear end, transmission, power steering, coolant and engine oil... all those should be kept fresh at a greater rate, especially if you're towing a lot. Aftermarket parts don't usually increase reliability... replacing a clutch fan with an electric for example. There is some merit in the saying... "If it ain't broke, don't try to fix."
