Unhappy Engine revving while in park

We found our son a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie with 55,000 miles on it in May
Yesterday he went to get gas and while the truck was still in park, he started it and the engine kept revving as if he was gassing it.
It stopped, and then he drove home and all of a sudden it started to go really fast without his foot on the gas pedal. Scared the crap out of him. Pedal wasn't stuck..Mat was ok.
Our mechanic can't find an issue and now he's afraid to drive it.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Just saw there was a recall- so thanks!
ConsequenceA JAMMED OPEN THROTTLE COULD CAUSE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION OF THE VEHICLE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A CRASH OR INCREASED STOPING DISTANCES WHEN BRAKING

sounds like something with the throttle body is going on I’m not sure what exactly but if you or your son were driving and say it started doing that if nothing else just throw it in neutral be careful not to go up to reverse but atleast that way it will stop
