For those in the rust belt, might be a good idea to lower your spare, wash the salt off and coat it with some used oil or something once a year.

You obviously missed my point. There won't be any "Limping Around" if your spare wheel and tire match the set of wheels and tires currently on your truck. Do you keep your truck clean? If not then no need the read the next sentence. It's called the "Walk/Drive of Shame" driving around with a rusty wheel and dirty tire. There is no shame in having a matching spare.
