9.25 3.55 rear end swap
My 05 Ram 1500 4x4 rear took a dump recently.. not completely, but she's starting to whine pretty good when decelerating, vibration occurs when in reverse.
Haven't yet tore it apart to confirm yet because when I looked under the truck, there was a decent pool of fluid coming directly from the rear where the yoke meets up, so I'm pretty confident that's the issue.
As for the swap, I've been lurking around my local junk yards and have come across a Durango that is also 3.55 with a 9.25! So here is my question..
Is it a direct swap? Or are there things I have to keep from my Ram other than bump stops? Or will it just not match up at all?
The Durango I found is a 1999 2x4 5 lug with rear drums, my Ram is a 2005 4x4 5 lug but I can't remember if mine has disc or drum in rear off the top of my head so I will update later but let's say it is disc, surely I'll just have to swap out my disc set to replace the drums on the donor Durango rear? Forgive my ignorance, this is my first Dodge!
thanks in advance for any help!

I suspect the Durango rear won't be as wide....
Sounds like the front pinion bearing in your rear diff is going on. Might try just replacing that bearing, and the seal, refill with fluid, and see how it goes.

Different width and you have disc brakes. 2nd gen Durango has six lug wheels just like the Dakota (they use the same wheels). So either you got the year wrong or someone swapped a rear from a different vehicle in.
