Gutless wonder
I have An '05 Reg cab Daytona and it seems to be rather gutless when accelerating. Ibought it with 8 miles on it and now it has about 1100 miles on the odometer. Is there a break-in period set by the computer (run hours or mileage) or am I expecting too much? My wife's '05 Durango also has the HEMI and it seems to launch much harder than the Daytona...
I just bought a QC Daytona, '05 w/21 miles on it. I had it for a day, then it went back to the dealer for them to do some work on it. They gave me an '06 4X4 Hemi truck to drive in the mean time. I wouldn't have known it was a hemi except for the emblem on the front. It made me really miss my truck.
Sounds like your Daytona has the get-up-and-go that mine is lacking. I was considering resetting the computer. Not sure if it would help, but it sure can't hurt...
BTW, My Daytona is a 4X4. I am hoping that that doesn't mean it is automatically a slow pig. My '95 Dakota 4X4 w/318 destroys the Daytona off the line. The Dakota is lightly modded (3" exhaust from the manifold back with 40 series Flowmaster, enlarged & polished throttle body with K/N filter in stock filter housing) but shouldn't beat it like it does. Just wondering.
One more note. The Dak has 210,000 miles on the original motor.

I agree with the above. Gutless is a description that's never come to mind on mine (this one accelerates better than any truck I've ever had). Now, if you want to talk about, say, Thirsty, that's a little closer.
I'd go test drive some others and see if it's common. It doesn't sound right to me.

These trucks have something called Torque Management programmed into the computer and the 06 seems to have more then all before. Toque Management keeps the converter from locking up when the computer senses the truck being hammered on. That way they see that as prolonging the life of the drivetrain. Even with the stock program I would not call my 06 gutless but I have noticed it resisting the beatings I have tried to give it..
Torque management seems to pull timing when hammering from a dead stop. I'll agree, it's pretty damn annoying.
I still haven't figured out if it has anything to do with drivetrain wear or if they are just trying to prevent the *** end from kicking out and scaring the crap out of the pansies.

To ask if the break in has anyting to do with it, basically the answer is no. Break in miles is 300. Will the truck gain a little over the first 5-10k? Yes, but nothing that will take a gutless wonder to a street racer.
